Is Laser Eye Surgery Right for You?

Meeting with one of our doctors to discuss your suitability for laser eye surgery is the first step. We’ll consider your age, health, refractive error, and other factors to determine your candidacy for laser eye surgery.

Here are some factors that are considered:

You’re at least eighteen years old
You’ve had a stable eye prescription for the last two–three years
You’re nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)

For some patients, laser surgery may not be an option. You may be a poor candidate because of eye health or lifestyle factors. Or, you might have a vision problem that laser surgery isn’t suitable for, such as presbyopia (a condition causing blurry near vision) in those over forty.

An option to consider could be refractive lens exchange (RLE). This surgery involves the removal of the natural lens. A new lens—an artificial intraocular lens (IOL)—replaces the natural lens, improving the eye’s ability to focus.
